The strip is upside-down; she took some E and now she’s hanging from the chandelier.
The word “a” may indeed be pronounced [ə], but “what”, ”touch”, and “of” are different. They are all normally pronounced [ʌ].
[ə] is, however, the normal way to pronounce the letter “e” in French, unless there is an accent.
