Most of the Muslims I know have a good sense of humour. Judging an entire religion by the actions of a small number of its most extreme members is racist.
Worshiping the scaffolding, which is what any religion is, at the expense of the life it is supposed to be used to build is idolitry – the worship and absolutizing of a creation of man. Even Mo’s wives ridiculed him for having “revelations” justifying what he wanted to do ! If his wives could do it, why can’t anyone else? Note that in one major school of judeo-christian theology, prophesies have to happen twice, e.g. Messiah comes twice. There is no Islam without Jesus as we all must be “born again”. This is not a religeous statement – we all must do the work of leaving home so we can see the place again for the first time. The Mohammedans are not allowed to do this work. It is not Mohammed or Jesus who should be ridiculed, but rather those who claim to be their followers and, because they have not done the work of leaving home, which requires critical analysis, but are in realitiy emotional children whose ego deception keeps them in a state of idolitry. The sad truth is very few of us are willing to embrace freedom – humanity seems to always be looking for a more comfortable set of chains.
Interesting comparison to John Maplethorp’s art. Recall the rights outrage about one of his so called woks of art-set off a real uproar of indignation on those good Christian’s part
Someone has offer the postulation that there would be a lot less blasphemy directed toward Christians if Christians got violent over blasphemy as Muslims do. But no, we turn the other cheek. And as Nipsey Russell once observed, “I’ve been studying brotherhood; and the lesson I learned is this: He who turns the other cheek gets hit with the other fist.”
