Rick: Jeff, what exactly is your status at Overkill? Did they make you a firm offer? Jeff: Well, not technically. But they will, it's just a formality. Rick: How do you know? Jeff: The recruiter told me to expect a call. Rick: Uh-huh. What were his exact words? Jeff: "Don't call us. We'll call you." Rick: Let me explain something to you...

Jeff’s THAT naive!?!

Jeff’s ego is enormous; Jeff’s talents are miniscule. Now’s the time for his dad to bring him back to reality, but it’s going to be a long journey.

I remember the day after my undergrad graduation going out with my new suit, new shoes and 500 fresh resumes ( though I knew I’d only need a couple) ready to have an executive position within a week. Wore those new shoes out. Eight hour days and some weekends looking. Yes it was a recession and no, the position I accepted did not require a suit. Nowadays you type a resume, hit send, and watch TV until the job you want comes out of your computer. I’d personally buy another pair of shoes.

If I were Rick Redfern I’m thinking maybe I should get a sample of Jeff’s DNA and pay for a paternity test. There had to have been a mix-up at the hospital twenty some-odd years ago.

No, no mixup - they have the same nose.

If Jeff could spell it, he needs to Google “clueless” on that computer he’s using.

What Jeff needs to do is get pointers from Rick, set up a Red-Rascal blog and expose truths about the wars and the CIA as a motley fool.

If Jeff was actually employed by the CIA in the past, can someone please clarify what the ‘I’ stands for in that acronym?
Dragoncat over 14 years ago
“Don’t call us, we’ll call you.” It’s like being fired without being hired.
Maybe using the Red Rascal as a reference was a bad idea after all.

Big ego, no talent? Sounds like a perfect match for one of the three letter organizations, or a private contractor.

Comic book guy didn’t get hired at Blackwater! Silly silly comic book guy! Ha ha hee hee baa baa bleat bleat…
Blackwater still exists and is the greater problem, but addressing that might actually endanger a salary or two. ;-7

@ Alabama Al Maybe there was a mix-up, but you gotta feel a little sorry for this generation. They were brought up thinking that they could do anything they wanted whenever they wanted to, and were guided by hovering parents (hence the nickname “helicopter generation”) who felt it their job to enable their childrens’ success throughout school.
Success doesn’t carry through to real life after high school. Yesterday’s entitlements are hitting today’s reality like a goose egg splattering on a brick wall. Jeff is one of many kids these days who are dazed and confused over it.

Well said, Nemesys.

The ‘can do’ attitude typical of Americans is absolutely wonderful in those who actually CAN, but disasterous in those who merely have delusions of competency and unrealistic levels of self-esteem.
It can make life in a multinational company interesting. If a Brit says ‘hum, well maybe I can do that, perhaps’, chances are they can. If a Japanese says,’yes ‘, you need to ask a more subtle question because they consider it so impolite to say ‘no’. If an American says,’sure, can do’ - you need to check their previous record to see if its reality or BS.
