    Considering their superior olfactory sense, why haven’t they used pigs for the purpose. I remember a news item years ago where a wild sow was retiring from anti-smuggler duty with the West German border police. It did the stand, sit (attention, at ease) movements just like the dogs in the squad. I wanted to do a model of it, but couldn’t get any more documentation than that one minute on TV.

    helen ferrieuxActually, scent oriented hounds are used for truffle hunting – by those who don’t have a properly trained pig.
