90% of the times I’ve used the Do Not Disturb sign, the front desk called to see if I would be wanting maid service that day. I got in the habit of unplugging the phone, but that wasn’t enough since housekeeping needs to schedule their people someone would inevitable come knocking—so leaving a sticky note on the door that I didn’t want maid service that day became the solution. And no, calling the front desk to tell them doesn’t work—no one checks notes written by people on the previous shift.
