@LWP: You’re lucky. In my school, everything was alpha order. I was the shortest kid in the class, and on top of that, needed glasses. So sitting in the last row in math contributed to my low grades, but being last in line for the ‘retention drills’ (fallout shelters) and fire drills made everyone think I was some kind of hero…
I remember going down to the fallout shelter at elementary school. They went by the wayside ‘til I hit 11th grade, then TMI almost blew up. That fallout shelter wouldn’t have helped one bit. It was scary knowing that we may never had a home to go back to.
I lived a few miles from the Savannah River Plant which made Plutonium for weapons. We did not bother with fallout drills; we would have been to close to the fireball(s).

In my school he would’ve been at the back of the line; we lined up with the tallest kids in the back.
