Be This Guy – unfortunately that is not correct. A couple years ago Via and MasterCard started giving kickbacks to retailers when they adopted a policy to only accept debit/credit cards and not cash.

Alas, we pay with debit cards, and even then it can be hard to rent a car with one. Occasional flack from hotels too.

But cash is so much better than credit. Always has been and always will be. People get glossy eyed when they see a couple hundred or couple thousand little green bills. Not so with credit cards.

This happened to us years ago when we were traveling. The credit card company thought someone else was using our card and closed the account. Fortunately we had cash. The next time we traveled, we let them know we were traveling and where we were going.
