    That was just a stereotype. Native Americans were just as fluent and flawless in English then as they are today. Many learned other European languages as well. Even back in colonial times, they were often asked to interpret, even between Europeans, such as English and the French or Germans.

    They once had a bit on “Saturday Night Live” where Tarzan, Tonto, and the Frankenstein Monster were in a soap opera called “As World Turn.”
