Martin appreciates the value of a pre-emptive safety shower.

I’d like to tell Martin… that idea is all wet.

Look…. water is seeping into the bottom of his briefcase.Did you think he meant to add even more to his misery by ruining all his paper work, too?

Of course, if all that’s in there is a pile of his latest tragic, whining poetry…I guess we’re better off without it, I hate to say.

Actually, Martin has always been a rather downcast, miserable pain in the posterior. Della has always put up with so much.I’m not surprised she finally left.Miserable poetry and soaking your head won’t get her back, Martin.Try a smile now and then.

Gosh…I thought everybody went to bed.

I have been in that place.

Miserable Martin as he is known to his acquaintances – he has no friends, due to his dour disposition – has always been something of a downer.

Some people view the glass half full, others half empty. Martin just looks at the glass and complains that it’s dirty.

We have all learned to avoid him when he comes into the Tiki on rare occasion to “drown his sorrows”. If he corners you, you’re in for an ear- bending, mind numbing, evening of self-flagellation and boredom.

I thought his cousin Gloomy Gus was bad but Martin has him beat, hands down.

He reminds me of a certain comics fan who’s repetitive tales of childhood woe, for better or for worse, turn up elsewhere.

It may be that Martin’s full-time job as a stock analyst and his current part-time position as a political pundit might have something to do with his perpetual pessimism ?
