It’s more a comment on why learning the English language is torture. Since we call them reading, riting and rithmetic, wouldn’t it make life a lot easier for those having to learn to read, write and do arithmetic to spell them like they sound?
English is a wonderfully rich and varied language, although I can see how it could be a challenge to learn if it isn’t your native tongue.
One of the funniest looks at the joys of English is the episode of ‘I Love Lucy,’ where pregnant Lucy insists that their child only be exposed to perfectly spoken English. She challenges Ricky to read a child’s story which includes these words: cough, bough, through, rough. They’re all spelled alike but don’t sound alike, and poor Ricky struggles with them until, in frustration, he declares that their child should only learn to speak Spanish.

What? Reading, riting and rithmetic are not the real words?

Looking at today and yesterday’s strip, Treggie is quite a put-down person.
