I’d posted additional “Phantom”-related comments up until rollover time, this one bears repeating …
Tony DePaul, current writer of The Phantom, did indeed cut his teeth writing stories for Scandinavian publication.
According to Wikipedia, he assumed authorship of the daily and Sunday strips upon Lee Falk’s passing in 1999, Mr. Falk having guided his creation for a breathtaking 63 years.
Maybe it’s asking for too much of a good thing, but I’d really, really, really enjoy an official Dick Tracy/The Phantom adventure running through both strips for a few weeks.
The “Man-Frog” creature glimpsed in panel three of the third daily Phantom strip from the wedding sequence is Hzz – Think I might have read at least part of the storyline where he makes his first appearance.
There are a few additional ‘Phantom’ oddities which haven’t been mentioned in passing yet.
One is the ‘Fine-For-What-It-Is’ (… and highly regarded in certain circles) futuristic “Phantom 2040” – which featured an admittedly top-notch writing staff, solid voice acting, and art design by “Aeon Flux” creator Peter Chung.
The other is This Two-Part Mini-Series from 2009/2010 which is so obscure even I’ve barely heard of it.
If anyone wants to delve deeper into either of these, feel free.
Honeynoon is such a scene-stealer! And with Devil, too. “Never work with children and animals!” Who is paying much attention to the adults? —Certainly not Joe Staton!Too bad this can’t be a more extended crossover, showing and naming the Phantom….
I don’t know if the “powers that be” had any reservations about this cross-over, but they can put their minds at ease. It certainly has generated lots of positive publicity for the Phantom strip here. And a few people have mentioned the cross-over in the comments on the Phantom site as well, even though it does not seem to be a two-way cross-over.
Timmy, you beat me to it! Most General Aviation passengers (read that ‘Gulfstream gentry’) use separate facilities from the ‘TSA Body Cavity Specialists’. Good catch!
Some people were wondering yesterday how Tracy could know the Phantom’s secret identity. It could be that he knows him only as “Mr. Walker”. It could be he is unfamiliar with the Phantom guise.

Looking like it’s just you and me for now, Bill.

Somehow, I thought “The Ghost Who Walks” would be taller than Tracy.

Wonder if “Mr. Walker” will pass any significant intel along to Tracy before making his exit.

I see that Tess has met “Mr. Walker” before, too.

For the record …
It wouldn’t be the first time The Phantom teamed up with someone.

[ Even though I think that was a future Phantom, not the contemporaneous one. ]

Been waiting to use the word “Contemporaneous” all day.
And I think it’s even spelled right.
AnyFace over 8 years ago
Actually, this was the first time The Phantom was involved in a massive mash-up.
And even Steve Canyon, Tim Tyler and Prince Valiant got in on the action.

I wouldn’t try watching that in its entirety, though.
It’s a bit of a slog in places.

As I recall, The Phantom Sunday strip had Mandrake and his cohorts in a recent story.

Not surprisingly, Lothar was there as well.
More detail in the concurrent dailies …

Doing my Due Diligence, even if it pains me.
Here’s the DVD cover for the 2009/2010 Miniseries …
Looks more like Daredevil or Judge Dredd to my eye.
Also, always be wary of anything that uses the words “Reimagined” or “Reloaded.”
Even more so if they feel the need to use both.
And still no candy-striped trunks.
AnyFace over 8 years ago
In a more nostalgic vein …
Don’t forget that the “Captain Action” toy line included a “Phantom” costume!
… and it actually had candy-striped trunks.

Wonderful art! Honeymoon bonds with Devil much as Mysta bonded with the horse at the racetrack during the Tabby Angus story.
