Yeah, but odds that he’ll make it in baseball are better than in football, better career length. Three dozen guys throw balls in the NFL. Ten times that in MLB.
Tru was throwing harder than usual because he was ticked, Wise Gil knows that he can’t sustain it, and if he tries to he will strain his arm and jeopardize his football career.
True was throwing 91 a year ago when he was just learning to pitch, so 96 isn’t too big a stretch. The scouts would have been monitoring him all season.
Tru(e) should at least talk to the scouts. The potential career earnings are higher in baseball as long as you don’t blow out a shoulder. Not to mention the fact that you have a much better chance of retiring with your brain intact.
P3, Don’t worry coach, this was our 3rd game. Season’s over. 2nd in The Valley again. Time to wrap this up and head to Milford CC and maybe a quick gratuitous look at Mimi poolside in a bikini. We got cheated out of that last year.
Remember that Tru missed out the start of his first season at Milford when he hurt his ankle stepping off a curb, and he missed a couple of critical games this year when he took a hard hit to his shoulder. Given that he’s not the most durable of athletes, maybe a sport with less tackling offers him an opportunity for a longer career. (Assuming he learns how to throw something other than fastballs, of course.)
P1- The scout is holding the free can of soup for buying that hat. WTH happened to the stripe on GilPa’s pants? P3- Thorp lecturing Young Standish like the son he never had. Did GilPa have a son? If True blows his arm out, he could have a career in textiles abroad.
Echoing Brown Starfish, I can see Gil doesn’t teach Math or Finance, but at least he should teach Health (along with Gym) as my HS coaches did. Tru(e) – “Yes Gil, let’s limit my options!”
P-1 Tru needs to rethink his future, maybe PhilosophyP-2 Thank goodness it was the NBA scouts and not the Central City Police.P-3 As Elvis used to say “Don’t”
Baseball is a better career. The average NFL career is less than 4 years and there are no guaranteed contracts in football. Baseball pitchers have guaranteed contracts and they have a much longer shelf life. No one in baseball is trying to rip your head off.
When I was umpiring HS and Legion ball, I worked the plate a number of times for a Tru-like player. I didn’t make up strikes, but they knew I didn’t squeeze a pitcher, and he was a dominant pitcher getting a lot of attention. A couple of college scouts even asked me some questions. He chose baseball, got a 4-yr. scholarship (Rare. Most are partials), and then flunked out in a year. For some weird reason I felt like he let me down, because his talent was so obvious.

Come on, Gil, don’t trivialize True’s baseball ability.

Baseball or football—who knows how well True will perform over a season that’s more than three games long?

P4: True bursts into tears having made the Scout-Boo connection. And Gil tries to console him by telling him he threw a Jem of a game.

So I guess the Boo matter is over. Who the heck was the pickup driver? It’s not fair to let them get away.
