Very civic-minded of you, Lio! There are a lot of gags that need to go to the recycling center! Beetle Bailey being pummeled by Sarge is only one among many–Garfield eating lasagna, Cathy trying on a bathing suit….
Hmmm Sarge exhibits a lot more violence than all the scary monsters Lio has befriended so far…and it’s gratuitous violence, at that. Not too impressed…
Well, I loved the old Beetle Bailey paperbacks, but even I as a veteran and almost Mr. Walker’s contemporary (almost), I think it’s time for him to go gracefully into the sunset.
First, I want to salute BB and the Walker tribe for carrying on an enduring comics tradition (Happy 60th!).
But it has been a long, long time since anything new or all that funny has happened in BB, and it is on my clean-up list for next time I purge and replenish my subscriptions.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Also, if you weren’t so quick to be judgmental about the artists originality, you might (although I doubt it) have figured out that he was giving a birthday salute to Beetle Bailey’s 60th year in print.
Next to go: Dagwood making an enormous sandwich, Shoe yelling at the Perfesser for missing a deadline, and Ziggy wandering around in public with no pants on.
Will we see Lio chucking Cathy into the compost heap soon? Or would that be bad for the lawn?

Don’t recycle spammers – trash ‘em!
There was a Snuffy Smith cross over with Beetle Bailey recently to honor Beetles 60th.
Made me laugh considering the pale imitation of former glory both these strips are now.
Who remembers that back during WW2 Snuffy joined the army (he wanted to collect that thutty dullers a month) and became the Tokyo terror fighting the Japanese
Now he and Beetle are mired in hum drum gag a day mediocrity at least Garfield started out that way, these guys have deevolved..lol

I’d like to see any TV show who adds a baby to an all ready clichéd premise, tossed in the compacter.

Sarge is An Army of One; one martinet who should be fragged by his own troops.

So who’s keeping you here, krishna?
And btw, ellipses consist of only THREE dots, and proper punctuation is your friend. Sentence fragments, on the other hand, are not.

The gag is that Lio should throw it away and protect us against the gag recycling.

It’s nice to see the comics are going green. I’m glad that Lio is trying to take care of his world.

Throw the whole For Better or For Worse strip in there, while you’re at it.
timtribbett about 14 years ago
uh oh, from what I’ve heard Mr. Walker has a low tolerance for being picked on.May make the next cartoonist convention a wee bit awkward.

See if you can find: “Pogo”, “Dondi”,”etc.
If you are asking if those old comics are available online, the answer is, yes.

Thank you for this. This gag is so old it stinks!

Mark did say on FB that since Cathy quit after he parodied her, he though Beetle should be next.
