Lawn art when I was a kid in Illinois was usually a big blue or green mirrored “gazing ball” on a cement column or pedestal.
My uncle’s yard in Florida had pink concrete flamingos with re-bar legs… ooooh…. exotic.
As a high school kid in Wisconsin, I discovered, a few blocks from my house, a fence covered in morning glories, surrounding a yard full of gnomes and fake mushrooms…I don’t think there were plastic ones yet, so they were probably all made of cement.Dozens of them!
I didn’t know you were supposed to think they were tacky, so I loved them…still do.So sue me.
Around here, for a while, it was a fad to “give people the bird”.Somebody had a collection of plastic flamingos, and they would put them in front of a person’s house. They had to keep them for a week, and then pass them on to another person. I saw them in front of a church, dressed in fancy hats and neckties, and then walking down a long driveway, with pieces of “mail” stuck to their beaks. Kinda cute.
