A Game of Thrones has been available in books for years, but at the office it’s still taboo to talk about the HBO episodes until confirming everybody has seen them.

I’ve seen a couple of movies (the original Planet of the Apes is the first that comes to my mind) that ended differently than the book they were based on. I remember a comedy movie where some studio exes were discussing an upcoming movie based on a best seller and one of them made a comment about how one of the scriptwriters had actually read the book.

I believe they planned to use the original ending for the Will Smith version, but it didn’t go over well with test audiences.

The first Harry Potter movie was one movie that was actually close to the original book. I remember reading once about how the director went into the first script-writers meeting, threw a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and said, “This is the script we’re using.”

And he found out the were in the original ending. And we did see some advance planning in the movie, like when they moved one of his mannequins.
