Two Suns in the Sunset“In my rear view mirror the sun is going downSinking behind bridges in the roadAnd I think of all the good things that we have left undoneand I suffer premonitions. Confirm suspicions of the holocaust to comeThe wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in……..gives way And suddenly its day again. The sun is in the east even though the day is done. Two suns in the sunsetHmmm. Could be the human race is run.”(Finally on the micro tube radio)“And now the weather. Tomorrow will be cloudy with scattered showers spreading from the east with an expected high of 4000 degrees Celsius”(My favorite line from that song“Ashes and Diamonds. Foe and Friend. We were all equal in the end…….”Thanks to Pink Floyd….The Final Cut.
This reminds me of the scene in the original "On the Beach’ movie when the crewman deserts to stay in his hometown. He last speaks to the captain while fishing from the dock.
A subtle detail in the artwork: In panel 3, see how tightly the man is gripping the rod. One small piece of ‘acting’ speaks volumes. Kudos, Mister Neathery.
He’s not surprised to see the rockets’ red glare. Look at all the black smoke in the city behind him from the BuddyBombs. He probably figured if he were going to die or worse, it might as well be while doing something relaxing.

Sitting outside, enjoying a favorite passtime and a beer. That’s not an entirely bad way to go.

We are a clever lot, the human race. And we’re cleverest at inventing ways to kill each other.

It looks like this guy probably died here, but he kind of reminds me of Walter Trimble, drinking beer and fishing. See any resemblance?
