Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 04, 2016
Transcript:
Mr. Spaetzle: I can still remember when kids were stridently not supposed to drink coffee. Now they're constantly being pitched caffeinated sodas that seem to sponsor more athletes than Nike, doing somewhat more extreme sports. We've gone from "it will stunt your growth" to "lotsa luck reaching adulthood." Frazz: I prefer "stay young", but I get your point.

Doesn’t caffeine inhibit calcium uptake?

Wow Jef, interesting angle to take. I would have thought the tree-hugging hipster doofus Frazz would have joined the coach being against ‘energy drinks’. But I DO get the point of the strip… ;-)

That’s the phosphoric acid, not the caffeine.

Nike just announced they’re dropping golf from their products. Bags, balls, and clubs will no longer be made by Nike. Chew on that Rory, Tiger, etc.

If a youngster likes caffeine, he might be better off drinking coffee with a lot of milk. My cubby hubby used to get up early as a youngster and drink “coffee” with his dad before Dad went off to work. (Mostly warm milk with enough coffee to flavor it—I think what the French refer to café au lait). Far from stunting his growth, he reached a height of 6’ 2" As an adult used to drink a lot of half and half with his coffee. When he decided to lose some weight we found that vanilla almond milk made a fine coffee bleach and far fewer calories. (The unsweetened is best).

Makes me think of the title of a song that I think was sung by Blondie, “Die Young, Stay Pretty.” Of course most accident deaths are very pretty.

An adult’s body gets rid of the caffein consumed with a cuppa in roughly four hours. A child consuming the same amount of caffein is on caffein for 20 hours. An energy drink at 10 am. wears out at 2 pm for an adult, and, for a child, next morning about 6 am.
