Photo albums are one thing as far as today’s kids are concerned but a record album is something that lost its true meaning two generations ago. Up till 1958 a record album was just that. It was a book about 12 inches (30 cm) square that held about six record sleeves. The records themselves were heavy discs ten inches in diameter made from a blend of shellac and slate. Altogether, that made up an ‘album’ of some 12 related pieces of music.
A trick played by Juliet coping with the amorous Romeo was to put one disc on at a time and break unwelcome romantic overtures by having to change records.
Conversely, Romeo knew he was right on track should Juliet choose to ignore the fact that the music had played through and the needle was endlessly tracking in the centre groove, OR, from the most welcome message that she turned the player off and resumed her seat on the sofa.
Man, that’s where the word ‘groovy’ came from. Trust me, I was there.
I was on vacation. I read the strip, but only late at night before change-over, so posting would have been like talking to myself and I already do that enough as it is.
My I ask ottod, where you went? Wherever, I hope you had a good time!
I just noticed something, look at that tv! Talk about antiquated! Who has those anymore, other than me! LOL! My youngest saved up money and bought himself a 37” HDTV which he took with him to school, so I have to watch my football games on a regular old tv set!
we now got scrapbooking, for folks to create more books of junk, junque or memories
