When I was Elliot’s age no one even imagined smart phones (except maybe Dick Tracy).Heck the transistor was only a year older than me.What I had was shortwave radios. Don’t have them any more but I still have some vacuum tubes just in case.
But then again, I recall an 1940’s Republic serial where the villain used video conferencing to direct his henchmen.I think I have a copy of it on VHS tape.
Actually pay phones have been disappearing …. winking out one by one for many years.
It’s not just because of cell phones….I was a retail manager 30 years ago, in a rather upscale mall.A crew came in one day and removed all the pay phones.
Mall management told me it was because the police said they were used by teenagers …for drug deals!By about 20 years ago, most of the phones in my town had been removed due to constant vandalism. I was upset cos I didn’t have a cell phone yet, and felt unsafe with no way to call for any kind of help.Believe it or not, Templo, and you other youngsters who think technology is their God-given right….… NOT everyone has one now!A lot of the ones without them just can’t afford them…and yes, they use pay phones…if they can still find one that works.
X-Tech…. smart phones? Don’t know about you…(well, actually, yes I do but I’m not ratting you out) but when I was Elliot’s age, our whole family had one phone….It had a rotary dial, and sat on a special little table in the hallway.
No one dreamed of a phone that wasn’t attached to a cord…much less one that could make calls from anyplace but home. Not even Dick Tracy..in that era, he had a 2-way wrist radio,
Bev… I’m not sure Sheriff MonkeyBlues will cross cartoon borders to make arrests on another strip. But you could call him and ask…I mean, doughnut stealing is a pretty major offense, to a cop.
Meanwhile…maybe they’re just changing the behavior of “Favorites” and will be back with a new star.
I’ve always thought it was weird that nobody else can see any of your favorites except the most recent.
But if the stars don’t come back, we’ll be stuck with the strips displayed on our current profiles forever. The only way to change it is to remove its star, or go star another strip.I don’t change mine anyway… but some people do it every day.
Well, since I don’t have a cell phone, I haven’t had any updates recently. Hubby worries – I think he’s going to get me a Tracphone, so I’ll have something. Eldest daughter wants to give m a SmartPhone, but we couldn’t afford the monthly fee, which is more than we currently pay for our land line

Does ANYONE still use a pay phone these days? It’d be a resort if your mobile phone’s battery is dead or the mobile phone’s signal is weak.
