Yesterday, she wanted only two cards, but they bullied her into getting four. Now they’re giving her grief about not being able to do four. What nice old ladies.
The only place I ever play bingo is a charity event every couple of years…I’ve probably been three or four times.
If you buy “one card,” you get a newsprint pad, maybe 15" square, with nine little “cards” printed on each sheet…a fresh sheet for each game that’s going to be played that evening.Kinda like this one.
One card is $15, two is $20, so most people play two… that’s 18 little boards to watch and mark in each game, and at least a dozen games to the evening..
There are ink daubers on the tables… some people bring their own…much quicker than those little chips we used to use… and the ink dabs don’t slide off.Not having played bingo since childhood, I played a set of two cards the first time..and still do when I go there…
@keltii. Ok,so I know Torontonians consider themselves to be the centre of the universe, but last time I checked the rest of Ontario was still mostly North of 49,and yes,we have multi-game pads and daubers to mark them with West of Kenora, but hey,how about those Blue Jays, maybe they’ll win another game before the season ends eh!
Went to bingo once with my wife. She plays 20 boards, I played 4. She’s watching her’s AND mine and pointing out numbers I’ve missed. Had to be 40 years ago, never went with her again. She’s still going 3-4 times a week…
About 10 years ago, a tornado hit Canton, Missouri, crossed the river, ripped through “downtown” Lima, Illinois and continued north east. It was reported that at a hall in the path a bingo game was in progress. Someone saw the storm coming and told everyone to take cover! From the back of the hall: “CALL THE NEXT NUMBER!”
Also, some years back gambling, including Bingo was made illegal. So, the game of YAHOO popped up – same numbers, just different letters!
Also, how many have sat through a heated sermon on the evils of gambling, and then later during upcoming events – “And don’t forget Wednesday night bingo!”
Someone should tell her that the numbers called are shown on the board up front and now on a screen. I would have had to excuse myself away from all of that cigarette smoke.
Keltii…. California. But the group scavenges for donations…who knows where the equipment comes from.
Last time I went the cards were six-up instead of nine.Same price, too.Oh well, it’s very entertaining, and a charity, and not your usual bingo anyway.JPuzz …. I didn’t say Ellie was using a dauber. You can clearly see that she’s using the little chips I mentioned. I said I could do eighteen at once, with the help of a dauber, at my first try… So I thought she should be able to do four little cards, whatever way they’re playing.
Btw, i used to know several widowed older ladies, neighbors, who each lived alone, who all went to bingo once a week at the nearby Moose lodge.. It was a social highlight for them… It cost 5 or 10 dollars depending on how many cards they bought, sometime a dollar or two for cookies…Usually one of them would win something, and they’d discuss it for days. I never saw them bet on anything else, or run off to Las Vegas. It hardly made them “gambling addicts.”Not even the one who occasionally played on a different night at the fairgrounds.
Here in Las Vegas, there is information available conspicuously at the cashier’s cage in every casino about gambling addiction and offering help for it. I suspect that the gaming commission requires it.
What I don’t like about casino bingo is the prevalence of the machines that allow players to play a hundred cards or more at a time. They plug in the serial number off the cards and then the number called and the machine knows immediately when there’s a bingo. This is so unfair to the pluggers who only play the paper cards.
@Keltii. Relax,I didn’t think you were from TO,I just find it hard to resist taking a poke at Blue Jay central when an opportunity presents itself.Sorry if I offended you.

USN1977That APA also assisted in torture. I would trust the American Psychiatric Association far more – and they also recognized it as such.
