Excuse me — ahem, ahem. I can’t read this? Can you repair the enlargement function. Strange as this travel series is, I don’t want to miss a single word.

without a high-res scan, it’s totally unreadable. the best part of the whole comic is looking at the beautiful art in high res.

We’re seeing a tiny thumbnail. It’s like a dreary, unimaginative dream I had once.

I’ve got a single-volume book with every Little Nemo strip from 1905 through 1914, so I looked this one up. They’re landing in Wheeling, West Virginia, where they talk to the townfolk for a spell and have several boxes of candy given to them for the journey. Then it’s off to Cleveland, where the dirigible is approaching in the bottom panel.

I was curious why Wheeling (pop. 28,486 and declining in 2010) was included in the itinerary, since it’s nothing close to a major city today. Back in 1912, there were about 40,000 people there and Wheeling was considered a major railroad hub and industrial center for that region. Still not sure why it rated with McCay except for its location along the Ohio River on the way from Pittsburgh to Cleveland.

This appears to be human error – should be fixed presently.

There is no zoom today by order of the Wheeling City of Commerce.
