Depends on the draft, Linus. Military draft, they’ll send you to boot camp then somewhere else from there. Basketball draft, if you’re good enough for the majors they’ll send you wherever the team trains then to where the team plays home games and pay you a lot of money. A ton if you’re deemed really good. Then they’ll send you out on the road from time to time so you can keep making more money than the average citizen will see in a year. Same in Football drafts. In Baseball and Hockey drafts, it’s the same as in Basketball and Football, except if you’re not good enough to play in the majors but they see real potential in you they’ll send you down to the minors to one of their minor league affiliates where if you get good enough they may call you up.
I was born at the end of 1956, and I registered as well. I got a high number and wasn’t called, and then the draft quietly fizzled out. I left my wallet in my pants one time and they went through the wash, so I was one of the very few who destroyed his draft card by soaking it to pieces.
I was born in 1956, but I’m Canadian, and we’ve a military draft except during World War I and World War II. On both occasions it caused so much political disruption in the country that I doubt that any Canadian Prime Minister would have considered a draft in nominal peace time. A guy I met at university was at an American college and they apparently attempted to draft him in spite of the fact he was Canadian. I’ve often wondered what I would have done Had I been drafted.

Not to worry, Linus. By the time you’re old enough for the draft, it will no longer exist (but you’ll still have to register for it!).

Was this an anti-Vietnam war strip? I don’t think of Schultz as being at all political but given the date, I wonder?

Both these guys could have ended up in Nam. Disturbing to think about.

There might be less violence on the streets from young men (?) if everybody gave a couple of years of some kind of national service.

Is this a new storyline? Seems to have abruptly started from Snoopy’s rejection letter.
