Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for August 27, 2016
Transcript:
Phoebe: Knock, knock! Marigold: Who is there? Phoebe: Interrupting cow! Marigold: Oh, you mean Mabel? I did not realize you knew Mabel. How has she been? Phoebe: The joke doesn't work if you know an actual interrupting cow. Marigold: I have not seen her since she inevitably stopped being invited to parties.

Is this some sort of magical cow or does Marigold just speak cow?

Let me guess: the “interrupting owl” joke is copyrighted.

So an animal won’t work. Try an object. Oh and Rick Smith, about your previous post, I think I see what you did there.

I like it that Marigold does not use contractions. A very proper Unicorn would not! (Grammar Girl would be proud of you Ms. Simpson)

I have my personal variant of that joke.“Knock knock.”“Who’s there?”“Interrupting Cow.”“Interrup—”“(long, loud release of horrible flatulence)”

Did you all know that cow flatulence was an important part of global warming? No shit sherlock!

I know of Mable as a human girl that likes pigs. But not a cow. Sorry, did she jump over the moon, perchance?

I out-smarted myself into having my tonsils out back when that was the thing to do for children of a certain age. I deeply resented being hauled off the hospital and the attendant indignities, but worse was to follow the check-in. The next morning, while I was waiting for I knew not what, I was the only one in my room. But down the hall were numerous children sharing the new knock-knock joke craze. Unendingly. Unceasingly. Without pause. The good news was that it made me glad when they came to get me — ANY thing to get out of that hallway!

For some reason, I imagine Kristen Wiig as the voice of Marigold in this strip.
