Love the humor but, no, that is not what Darwin said..If a species is well adapted to its environment, it does not need to change. Random mutations are either discarded as unhelpful or lost in the general population. We have many species that were well adapted and which have survived with little change for long periods..But if environmental conditions change, or new competition from other species (developing or just moving into the area) occurs, and if the old adaptations are no longer favorable, then new mutations that are more favorable to the changed conditions will survive and the species will adapt and evolve..In some cases, some populations of a species in locations where environments or conditions of competition changed will evolve, while other populations whose conditions remain stable will not.

DDWizHe also hated “survival of the fittest”, insisting that what constitutes “fittest” often includes skills at cooperation.
