what's boring in d.c.? along with its monuments, museums & historic sites, washington also has many boring places of interest to calm the weary tourist- dry cleaners a window ledge with a rubber plant in a green-foil-covered pot, ancient magazines & a few dead flies in a vermont ave dry cleaner. a space marked "permit prking only" occupied by a rusty cart from a long-defunt grocery store in a gravelly lot of p st. a half-obliterated historical mark-er on 6th st. identifiying the site as the former center of d.c.'s once-thriving hat-blockig district. a small neutral zone of beige wall in metro car #314 that can be com-ortably stared at as it's not somebody's armpit, fanny pack or face.

The cat sleeping in the Georgetown store front. Except, he’s not actually sleeping. He’s watching people walk by.

Look closely at that cart, sometimes it changes to a store chain that never existed in that same spot. Also sometimes there is less or no rust on it as that section passes through several close parallel lines. One of the seemingly boring but on closer inspection, weirdness of the District of Columbia.

Close observation of everyday life in the throbbing metropolis. Some call it the basis of great literature. Some call it boring. Others make cartoons out of it….
