You could try selling them “freshly pecked” maters as strawberrys to some one with poor eyes sight.

Guess they didn’t want to show them drought stricken maters.

I guess this is a warning for when you have to buy back your own tomatoes…know your seller.

BTW…. I don’t get squirrels or rabbits…but the birds do peck them if I don’t pick them just a little bit too early and let them finish ripening in the house.

The birds and I all would love a fully vine-ripened tomato…but the best I can do is try to make it so none of us can have one.

The gophers are so bad I have to plant everything in pots…. any flowers or vegetables planted in the ground get eaten long before they flower.

The worst pest is neighborhood kids who vandalise them…one year they threw all the green tomatoes … and my grapes….all over the yard.

But I talked to them… and this year, so far so good….knock wood.

X… sadly, that last picture is pretty much how mine look….only mine are a third of that size…and only 1 to 3 tomatoes per plant.Usually they live till December…. even January….I’ve eaten December tomatoes. This year they’re dying… no blossoms since July.

As I said, they’re in pots.We got some rain last winter, plus I water and feed them… drought or not.

Nobody seems to know why this year is so bad for tomatoes…. even worse than the last three years, which were much dryer.

    Sigh…..

I’d post a picture of my straw bale tomato garden, but I need to figure out how. Good crop with a late planting! Happy Weekend to all!

I had a few raids this year. My tip for not having drought issues. When you plant, put an empty flower pot (or large can with lots of holes poked in it) in the ground next to your tomato. During the hot summer, pour water into the pot. It will leak out the holes and water the roots of the plant instead of simply running off. I put a dishpan under the drip for the AC and catch the water for my plants. On a hot, humid day I can fill 3 2 gallon watering cans that way.
