Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for September 05, 2016
Transcript:
Arlo: Remember we'd hit the beach whenever we could after we got married? Janis: Yes! Arlo: We'd come with nothing but towels and a cooler and have the time of our lives! Arlo: Those memories are a big reason I still love the beach today... Arlo: But it's just not the same.

Close enough! Now you can afford to buy the drinks.

When I was 13 – 14, I would catch the bus to Ft Derussy/Waikiki and stay there all day, with nothing but the hope of scrounging the coins for a taco.

I’ve always loved the saying “If you’re lucky enough to live near the water…you’re lucky enough.” (Charlotte Harbor, FL)

Our favorite place was a pasture with a wooded area….

I don’t think Arlo has to worry about anybody ogling dumpy, lantern-jawed Janis, even in Cartoon Land.

With so many more people room on any beach is less than before. Unless you go on off season.

“We’d come with nothing but towels and a cooler…” What, no swimsuits!? :-)

My girlfriend and I were both single Moms. We’d grab towels and kids and walk to the beach for the day. Came home dirty, hungry, thirsty (no bottled water then) and say good by, go to our own apartments, wash up and feed kids and pop them in bed. Great days. We both ended up married, more kids…same beach outings. Now I watch OUR kids go to the beach. Hats, lotions, cover ups, toys, food, drinks, bags of stuff, all in an SUV that has to be vacuumed. Guess which kind of beach trip we preferred?

CharliegirlYes, but we veterans of these pages know when to ignore him and when his comments rise to the level of a reply.

It’s not the same because that waiter is going to ogle at Janis. He’ll be discreet about it and wait till Arlo turns around. But Arlo will know, and it makes him uncomfortable.-That isn’t what Arlo was talking about, but ogling is part of going to the swimming pool or other body of water.

When I used to go to the beach with my parents (over 57 years ago) – we used to take a bungalow within a block of same when I was little – we used to bring so much – chairs, toys, needlework for mom, my grandparents stuff for them, etc. When sister came along a carriage was added. Never simple to go.
Beach is sandy and messy. Salt water always burned my skin. After being at the beach one had to take a shower in the outside shower and then a bath in the inside tub. Never pleasant – plus the sun.
I have not gone as an adult and will not.
