She’s proclaiming the beauty of the beach…when her enthusiasm is thwarted by seeing a dead fish, and some flies…So she quickly adjusts her gaze, and her admiration, upwards…to focus on something more likely to remain pleasant. No artwork…except from the hand of Mother Nature.
The beach is a desert, full of death and garbage. The forest is where the life is. My view of the beach was forever changed after reading the novel “Mosquito Coast.”
Glad I was not the only one thinking am I reading the same comic strip. No " Artwork " other than the comic itself. " SusanSunshine " understood the message in it .
And to think I just used to read the comics for pure pleasure, a good laugh, and to enjoy the art, and a respite from my day. I never thought to psychoanalize it, or discuss all its parts. ROTFL
@nightgaunt49. Look again at p1.Notice how her hand ends well below her bare leg,yet in p4 her legs are covered at least as far as her hand. Also the shirt is a lighter tone than the slacks or whatever they are. Probably an error by the colourist,or it could be J.J. Having fun with his fans.
Aw, Olddog… I was only having fun with you.Personally…. I love word use information…it’s a game to me, and a challenge. That’s what I was trying to show you!

Crabs gotta eat. The crabs and flies should get some credit for cleaning up the beach. Me, I prefer that the waves took it away faster.

If Janis lived on Staten Island, she’d be looking at hypodermic needles and other medical waste.

This is my ‘but’ theory. For every beautiful thing in life there is a but…. Sometimes it gets really hard to keep the chin up and not see it…
