I have one rule that everybody obeys, do not touch my headphones. Even my Mom knows not to touch them, out of respect.
I flick the room lights off and on to get my son’s attention…. it works well without any startling or temper.

It may just be a Michael issue. Elizabeth is so cutesy-pootsy that there is no way any attitude problems can come from her , period.
Are we sure Michael is 12 in this strip? This attitude describes my 8yo to a tee.
I’ve got a 10 1/2 year old grandson who’s attitude and personality, like Michael’s, is pretty typical for the age.

As many middle school teachers can tell you. those “tween” years are really a harder adjustment for kids than their teens, in lots of ways.
