You get use to the noise

He’s just feeling sorry for himself, and his misery wants company.

My interpretation —Panel 1: she’s talking and talking and talking, which he finds annoying.Panel 2: she’s done talking and leaves.Panel 3: he misses herPanel 4: he has gone to where she is, and resumed the activities of panel 1.

Arlo knows his job is to follow her and keep listening. That’s what women want sometimes … to be listened to.

Note that she’s so intent on filling his ears,that he didn’t get any of the drink she got for herself.

He wasn’t listening but when she left he missed her so he joins her at the kitchen table and continues not to listen. True love!

My wife and I do this all the time. We just hate not being around each other so if we walk away one of us usually follows.

I eventually figured out that when I asked “What are you thinking?” and he said, “Nothing,” he was telling the absolute truth.

Arlo looks annoyed in the first 2 panels. Why would he follow her around when he finally gets a break from her talking??
