Actually you do need a credit card if you ever want to rent anything. Like a car or a hotel room or make reservations anywhere. Never ever use a Debit card for that purpose. It will freeze up you bank account and you won’t be able to make purchases the day you make reservations or put the hold on the card. If you rent say a tool for the day and use the Debit card for the hold fee. When you return the tool the same day the card will decline.
Now I see why she says she still needs her credit cards. Judging from the title card, you see her in the right-hand corner. An indication she’s a tee-totaler.
You don’t have to get rid of your credit cards if you’re disciplined. I use them all the time, but I make sure to pay them off fully every month so I never pay interest on them. It’s so much easier to keep track of a budget with the monthly bill they provide than when working with cash.
Like Brian said, a cash back card with no unpaid balance can be handy. For the last couple of years I’ve put my groceries, gas, etc on my card, paid it off, and used the accumulated points at the end of the year to do my Christmas shopping.
I don’t think it’s that credit cards are bad, so much as credit card DEBT. That’s nasty.
My cat got extremely ill a few months ago, nearly died. Since I didn’t have the $450 for the vet, I would have lost him if I didn’t have an emergency credit card. This advice is foolish in that it assumes you won’t ever have an emergency that exceeds your savings, something that has happened to me more than once.

Not bad for someone with 3 fingers, spaghetti arms and a slightly hourglass figure.

So what if you have a cash back card and carry no unpaid balance?
I agree about the car loans though, a $36,000 car is not necessarily any more dependable than a $3,600 one and both get you there.

@Night-Gaunt49 I treat it as a sharp-edged tool that needs to be used carefully.
