The natural outcome of utilitarian ethics is that we should be as judgmental of other people as possible. How do you figure? When you judge other people in your mind, you feel better but they don't feel worse. Thus, additional silent judgment is always a net positive to total happiness. Therefore, any proper utilitarian system should favor deep-seated loathing of other people's tastes and habits hidden beneath an opaque cloak of civility. I dunno... What sort of people would want to live in such a system? Do you know that utilitarianism was invented in Britain? Whoooaaa.

In England, I don’t know that it’s so very opaque.
Might still be net positive, though, since everyone expects, and thus ignores it.

Is deep-seated self-loathing a net positive?

Neat trick if you can hide such powerful emotions. Death from such stresses will be slow and damaging to the one doing so. Might be a net positive for others but only if they see that self loathing which is unhealthy.
