I have, in my rather sordid career, done work for various and sundry attorneys, I am sorry to admit. They’re almost all the same. They have no qualms about charging the client a ridiculous amount of money every time the lawyer even thinks about the case but when it comes to paying for the work done to prepare the case – they scream bloody murder and are very slow to pay for services rendered.
They’ll pad their bill to the client so it reflects investigative and process costs three times the actual amount, but cry and whine when having to pay the investigator, or researcher, the real, reasonable fee.
Doctors are also high on the list of professionals who are slow paying complainers.
Both professions are notoriously cheap when it comes to spending their own money.
When a nephew of mine was getting married up in Vancouver, BC, the wedding was almost postponed because the Vancouver Canucks were playing that Saturday afternoon in the Stanley Cup Finals. As it was, the television room in the quaint old hotel, on Victoria Island, where the wedding reception took place, was jammed with the wedding party ( including the bride ) watching the game. The wedding dinner was punctuated by the scoring updates given by the “designated runner” whose odious assignment was to eat his dinner in the tv room while watching the match and keep the rest of us apprised of the goings on. There were lots of volunteers for that job ( myself included ).

Looks like lawyers (solicitors) in the UK are just as sleazy as in the USA
