I used to have cats that learned how to open those kinds of doorknobs. The trick is to grab the knob with one paw higher up than the other, and let your weight pull the knob to turn in the correct direction. Then they’d steal your credit card and find a good chiropractor.
My brilliant Juggernaut of loving memory never quite got it despite years of trying. Too often we’d find him hanging by one claw stuck in a crevice around the doorknob. What a magnificent being he was.
My Echo locked himself in the bathroom; my husband was not pleased as he had to take the doorknob off in the middle of the night (when else?), while Echo cried encouragement from behind the locked door.

Equinox strolled into the kitchen one morning, jumped up on the doorknob, and let himself out like he had done it a hundred times.

Hubby used to have a cat, Mr. Spock, who would sit on the arm of the sofa and turn the doorknob to get outside.

My black and white cat likes to play with the door knob, but luckily has yet to be able to open a door by herself.
