An artificial click-to-enlarge version, of this cropped image, can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). Its smaller, less-cropped, parent image can be found here. The 1866 Tibullus at Delia’s House (link shows his Wikipedia page) is shown, with a different coloration, framed, click-to-enlarge image, and described, by its current-location page.An unframed, that coloration, full image, can be found here. The artist used the Roman history theme quite often; this currently has 91 images. The artist’s bio, Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).Twelfth, of the 12 works, by this artist (under different nationalities), that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here (12 total).

So I gave my poem, “To Anacreon in Elysium” to Horace to set to music and the tune he came up with is so totally unsingable…

prrdh“To Anacreon in Heaven, where he sat in full glee,Some Sons of Harmony sent up a petition:”.and it doesn’t get any better. The thing requires a narrower range and a better match of accented notes to accented syllables. The filk about the Battle of Fort M’Henry matches the accents better, but is still not singable. Robert Merrill refused to sing it in public without six weeks advanced warning to work on it. Toreador on Guarde? Ready whenever.
