The timing of this strip is another unintentional coincidence. Linus could almost be describing Cubs fans last night. First National League Championship since 1945.
Of all the Peanuts cartoons I remember, this one remains at the top, and I had probably not seen it for decades. A perfect commentary on Charlie Brown’s whole life. Schulz was in true genius mode at the time.
I hope Linus will be more fantastic and happy if the Chicago Cubs who are heading to the World Series for their first trip since 1945 finally win the World Series title for their first time since 1908!

He just want future reference. If it wasn’t for the ball, I wouldn’t be able to tell between football and wrestling.

How did the other team feel? Like your baseball team, Charlie Brown.

If I had to choose 10 essential Peanuts strips this one would be one of them.

When this was written, goal posts were over the zero yard line instead of at the end of the end zone.

Leave it to Charlie Brown to think about the losing team enough to consider how they might feel about it.

I asked that to a classmate of mine at that age. He replied “I’m sorry, I don’t speak ‘Loser’”, and never spoke to me again.

Charlie Brown has a big heart. Of course he can emphasize since his team is always losing.

I always like it when footballers hug each other when their team has scored a goal.

These days, if the quarterback faded behind his own goalpost, he’d be charged with a safety…
