The mini-fridge is and infrastructure improvement,
with a new job for the person who restocks it,
and it improves productivity because Cliff won’t have to walk halfway across the station the next time he wants a beer.
Uh, Root Beer, yeah that’s right. Root beer.
We won’t talk about the Chinese prisoner-slaves who actually manufactured it, but the shipper who brought it across, and the various longshoremen and truckers who moved it should count. Hope it’s EnergyStar compliant!
Think about all the oil executives employed to produce the fuel to ship that fridge. Think of all the oil burned to power the electric plant. Think of the men employed as beer can recyclers.
There are a number of road projects going on in my area, funded by the “economic stimulation” package. Each of them is accompanied by a big sign reading, “Economic stimulation project–putting America to work!” A local paper complained about what a waste these signs were, and I thought, “Why? Somebody got a job and a paycheck to make those signs, and wasn’t that the whole purpose of the stimulation package?”
pbarnrob: In 2003 for six months I helped unload shipping containers coming in from the ports of Tacoma and Seattle transferring Chinese products for Target stores. Let me tell you, if all that stuff is made by prisoners, there would have to be a LOT of prisoners in China.

A suitable reward for Cliff’s hard work and productivity would be half a stick of gum, only moderately pre-chewed.

It’s also helping keep a cartoonist employed.

The sad fact is that the application will probably be approved, and then used in a campaign ad.

Cliff only “produces” one thing, and considering his diet I’m sure no hard work goes into the process.
Pleasant dreams, everyone!
