The toys usually end up in a trash bag hidden away for a while and will put in a reappearance after the child has had to go without for a while. Unless it’s a game controller which, unfortunately is small enough to hide in such a good place that no one can remember where it is.
Lynn’s Notes:This is the way I talked to my kids; trying to let them know that they hadn’t fooled me. I knew exactly what they were up to and it wasn’t working. From their point of view, of course, everything worked perfectly.
Unintentionally prescient strip. It’s not uncommon these days for adults to have a “someone else will do it for me” attitude themselves. We’re devolving.
Reminded me of a drama show that aired in the 1980s called Our House about a widow with three kids who moves in with her father-in-law, a World War 2 veteran. The move was not easy, namely because the grandfather imposed the same rules on the grandchildren as he did with his own children. One time the kids came home from school to find their toys in the trash, and the grandfather claimed that since they were lying around it is a sign the toys were unwanted and should be junked. When they grandkids protested, he said they could take back anything from the trash can, provided the toys are secured, or next time they are trashed for good. The kids reclaim everything save for an old teddy bear, and the grandfather, in a bit of humor, takes the bear for himself.
If we left stuff out, and didn’t put it away when we were told to, my mom would put it in the “Disappear Pile.” That is where it would stay until we paid part of our allowance to get it out!

Disciplining in front of a child’s friend does no good and does bad.

My DIL would just put everything I spent the money for, out for her next garage sale.

I only had to put one toy in the trash compactor. Problem solved.

I would wait until their friends had gone home before I read them the riot act, there’s nothing to gain by humiliating them in public.

The rule is " Praise in front of all! Discipline in front of none!"
It doesn’t matter the age of the person. How would you feel if your boss disciplined you in front of your co-workers?
