I was in Lowe’s yesterday to buy grass seed. As I walked across the store, I noticed in the distance a middle-aged woman dressed in very fine attire. She had on expensive clothes and high heels; as if she might be going out to dinner. Next to her she had a half a sheet of plywood. She was talking to two young male employees. The two employees turned and walked away from her and beckoned her to follow. She struggled to pick up the plywood, trying to hold her car keys and purse all the same time. I was hoping to catch up with her to help her out. By the time I was getting close, the trio had reached their destination. As I walked by I stated loud enough to be heard by the employees, “They didn’t help you carry that plywood?” The woman gave me a look of exasperation that told me she couldn’t believe it either.
A few years back, I held a door for a woman, and she said, “I don’t need your help, I’m capable of opening doors on my own!” You’d think I learned my lesson, but no, I STILL hold doors for people (not just women). So far, so good…

The nice people are still around, they are just no longer in the spectrum visible to the media.
