Ladies please. Try not to start the day with a nag. Arlo got up first and made the coffee, so apparently no good deed goes unpunished.

Take it out in the evening. Then today’s garbage doesn’t sit till next pickup. Here it’s once a week.

Arlo rises, dresses, makes coffee before Janet is even up? Then greets her with a smile. What a prince. Then a note AND verbal reminder. Janice, stop with the grief. Poor guy. Looks like a whipped puppy.

But Arlo, what if you are “indisposed” when you hear the truck? Better to put it out early than wait until the last minute. Our trucks seem to come by rather randomly…

Eh, if he misses it, then he just has to drive it to the dump… it’s not worth it.

I put it out the day before, while my wife is at work and her half of the driveway is clear. Much easier.

If Janis wants the garbage out earlier she should get dressed and put it out, otherwise she should not complain as long as it gets picked up. Control Freak!

in the time she took to write the note, affix it to the C-Maker, put away paper, tape, pencil, SHE could have taken it out!!!!!

I have to wait until the sun is up to put out the trash or the nocturnal critters (possums, raccoons, skunks and feral cats) around here break into the trash and scatter it all over the lawn (or worse over my neighbors’ lawns).

My family chore was to take out the garbage cans, so one morning they came on a different day, and it woke me up. So I quickly threw on some clothes and got the cans out right on time..Oh, and because the discussion has descended to presidential levels: boobs! (Heh, heh. Heh, heh. He said “cans!”)

My standard kitchen trash can is a fairly sturdy 50 pound chicken feed bag. When it’s full, I pack it down, tie it shut, and put it in a pile next to the truck. Every 3 or 4 months, I take the pile to free dump day at the dump about 8 miles away. It takes about two hours to load, tarp the load, get weighed in and out, and back home. And I can take the occasional big item such as a dead appliance.Food scraps are composted or given to the chickens. Containers are rinsed before going in the trash bag. Anything like chicken bones goes in a regular trash bag in a metal can to keep the dogs out of it until dump day. Anything that can be recycled is recycled.Grass clippings and leaves are either blown freely or bagged and used in the compost pile or as mulch in gardens. Someone a mile away has a wooded house lot, yet feels compelled to vacuum up the leaves with a mower pulled contraption, so he can grow thin grass in deep shade. I’m now harvesting his huge pile several years old for mulch. It will be at least a dozen truckloads before I have it all.

I would have said “If you want it out early, do it yourself.” But then, I am divorced….

When I was still working for a living the trash went out when I left for work in the morning. Now that I’m not working it goes out the night before so I can sleep in and ignore the whole thing. It’s a situational thing… your situation determines the best course of action. Fortunately, in my situation, I don’t have to worry about critters, just high winds on rare occasion.

Oh, the chickens and dogs love to eat the spent grain from the brewing process, and it makes a fine addition to homemade bread. And then, of course, the chicken manure eventually ends up in the garden. We don’t eat the chickens, just the eggs. They have a great retirement plan, just like Social Security. The young ones lay eggs that pay for the feed for the old ones.

Mom can’t put out her garbage the night before as there is a nature park up the road and the animals come out and knock over the pails and rip open the garbage bags overnight. She has to get up early and put it out just before they come to get it.

Yesterday we found out – they pick up our garbage at 9:30 am. We heard them when we were trying to reach the doctor’s office for an emergency trip in and no one was there until 10:30 and I called every half hour.
