Charging cavalry onto a formation of pike is pretty much the definition of a very bad idea. Pikes are specifically designed for impaling horses and riders. Hit them with archers you idiots.
Men and women of the military sacrifice so those “loved ones” can sleep. Maybe they can’t sleep peacefully while worrying about their military spouse/children/parent, but they are assured of rising to a new day, same as the old day.
You don’t attack pikemen with heavy cavalry because the pike is specifically an anti-cavalry device. You attack them with archers and use the cavalry to keep the pikemen away from the archers.
Kind of reminds one of the reality of war. They not only cost lives, but ruin lives – they most certainly are not number games to be taken cavalierly like a few commenters have done. My guess is they’ve never seen the horrors of war firsthand.

Thanks for the reality check, Rodney.

Unfortunately, so do the peasants those 1500 pikemen would loot and pillage if you didn’t send anyone out to get rid of them.

Well, Rodney, you can alternatively just sit down and be slaughtered together with the rest of ID.

And if calvary doesn’t work, you could try sending in the cavalry.

From my knowledge of AOE, Pikemen can run through cavalry! Use of Scorpions/Ballistas, Mangonels, recommended.

“Cavalry.”

Yes, Cavalry, Calvary is a hill near Jerusalem where (according to the bible) the crucifixion took place.

Major typo – it’s “cavalry” NOT calvary

“Calvary” is the hill outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. “Cavalry” is a host of armed men on horses.
Cerabooge about 8 years ago
Fink’s version of layoffs. Those horses eat a lot, and the cavalrymen themselves are expensive to maintain, too.
.
And if he had actually planned ahead, he could have lounged about inside the castle walls and laughed at the pikemen.

DON’T YOU MEAN ‘CAVALRY’?
