Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for November 20, 2016

Man: Today I'd like to look at Matthew 16:26...'For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul?' Indeed. Is it the goal of life to amass as much money as one possibly can? Is it the goal of life to own the biggest house? Is it the goal of life to impress the neighbor with the nicest car, the best clothes, the fanciest watch? Rat: Yes! Yes! Yes! Guess he didn't really want an answer. Pig: I've never seen a church ejection before.

Somebody tell Pig about ex-communication.

That may not be the end goal, but I’d rather have it along the way.

Apparently miracles do happen – Rat was in a church.
railwayman001 about 8 years ago
If Rat would go to church more, he’d understand what the priest is saying, and also how one may be wealthy, but one’s life is not about getting more material possessions alone.

so much for Rat being indoctrinated about repenting

How come Pig got ejected with him?

Why I don’t go to church. They take all the fun out of life and give nothing in return.

I guess Rat felt trapped in church. But he knew that the truth would set him free.

Rat should belong to the Church of Creflo Dollar.

I’ve been ejected from a church. I was also ejected from the classes that prepare for the Holy Communion.

Rat is a rejection. Thus the reason for an ejection ! Gets rather warm down there Rat better take some Ice-Water :-)

As Rat has patiently explained before here, religion is low-grade bunkum, so while there may be a soul, it’s pretty useless and dies with the possessor, so it might not be a bad bargain to use it in trade. Churches don’t like that sort of talk, as Rat has learned. It cuts into their terror shakedown dodge. He knew perfectly well that the head fear monger didn’t want an answer, but, well, he is Rat, after all. It’s what he does.

Money can’t buy happiness, but it can sure cover the down payment.

I got thrown out of Sunday School in the third grade, in 1953. My teacher was a southern Methodist who told us that Catholics use real human blood in their communion. I simply asked her where they got it, and she didn’t have an answer to that ( or apparently to the last several dozen questions I had asked) and she told the pastor it was me or her.

When it comes to Rat, he’ll be rejected from even the most sacred places.
A_NY_Outlaw about 8 years ago
you can’t say that Rat doesn’t give thanks for the things that are important (to him).

Maybe he’d be happier with the Scientologists?

What ever is false and not of God is burnt away when we die. Material Stuff is as useless as putting a paper check in our coffin to take with us for eternal life. Remember the riches & food found 3000 yrs. later in the pyramids? ;0) Yes, I’m Catholic, thank God. (literally) I still like Rat! What a rascal.

I am sure that both Stephan Pastis and Jef Mallett belong in the Final Four bracket of a particular nationwide comic strip competition.

It gets on my nerves when people don’t understand the difference between a rhetorical question and an actual question that requires an answer.

At least Rat got dressed up, and can afford a tie. Most rodents in places of worship are as poor as church mice.

Has Rat ever had a soul?
Sisyphos about 8 years ago
Rat learns what ushers (or porters, if any church still uses that term) are for! It was good of him to take Pig to church, but he should have not interrupted the sermon. Now he is a disgraced rodent wearing a tie for no reason at all.
Pig, he’s a bad influence!

If you remember what famous video game series had its main antagonist quote that verse at the end of one of its most famous installments, then like me you’re O-L-D! According to my younger colleagues, at least.
