Either (1) the ship’s computer has so absorbed the idea of Lyn that he’s gone completely nutzo and really thinks he’s Lyn, or (2) in some way we don’t know, Lyn is really here.
Edmund said that the mutagen wasn’t a virus or infectious, but didn’t know what it really was. Someone must know what it is, such as the creator(s), and anyone else who discovered the secret. Lyn may be one of those who know, and survived because of it, if only in spirit.
If the mutagen isn’t a virus, but it affects those who are exposed to it without a Topsider suit, then I think it could be a broadcast of some kind that exchanges a person’s body with one from another reality. The Topsiders aren’t affected because the radio equipment in their suits interferes with the broadcast. When the suit is breached, the radio is disabled, exposing the wearer to the mutating broadcast. The Lucranians aren’t affected because they aren’t from this reality. Once they discover the secret of the mutagen, Our Heroes’ quest may turn to finding the source and disabling it.
If mutation waves are being broadcast from a satellite, or the moon, then disabling them will be difficult. Mutants and Topsiders may have to work together on a space mission to knock it out. And not everyone will want it knocked out.
“Be like Mister Bimble, the man who lives in my finger. You’re not freaking out, are you, Mister Bimble? No? That’s wonderful. Mister Bimble says he’s not freaking out.”
I can’t help but wonder if Wally can get his dittos to overcome some of the ditto constructs of the ships computer. Or get to the bridge and become the ships captain!
Panel4 and Panel2. The hair is the same for mystery dude and Chic. And the way mystery dude’s cheek crinkles look like they could fit a beak. Of course, Chic reminds me of Dennis T Menace from the funny papers. Wally is in a bubble like Marx lives in, before he opens a wormhole to a different reality.
Pic of Lyn, mid-April. gocomics.com/endtown/2016/04/15 This guy parts his hair on opposite side. And his hair and bowtie are white. Is he a wizard? Did he get killed by a Balrog? Lyn the Grey was sent back as Lyn the White? If Marx is Bombadil, does Lyn outrank Marx? (I really don’t remember Tolkien very well, ATM.) Is Lyn Chic’s dad in another reality?
It’s Lyn, as remembered by Holly, reinterpreted by the virus-infecting the ship, and presented by the dittos. It’s natural to expect some misinterpretation from the original source (a xerox of a photo of a hand-drawn portrait of someone seen in a glimpse from across the street).
I was never that crazy about Tom Bombadil, he was omnipotent in his little realm but never bothered to set foot outside of it or cared about what happened outside of it. He wasn’t much of a character and should have been edited out of “The Fellowship of the Rings.” Say what I may about Aaron Marx, he is a much better character than Bombadil ever was or could be.
Personally, I think that either the ship’s computer got bored and is exhibiting Lynn just to get emotional peaks from Wally, and the others, or, the computer got so involved in Holly’s memories that it took on the Lynn personality. Either from low energy levels, or a mental breakdown.
I hope that is not Wally. I never did like Lyn that much and he was homely. He looks better as a blond, but why a white bowtie if it isn’t Lyn?Besides, Wally isn’t blond either. I think him as a ginger cat or a redhead., or light brown hair.If he looked like Krosp at Girl Genius, Then he might be a white/blond.
I hope the Edmund computer is getting weak and has some of Chic and some of Lyn and yes, Wally does have a short nose, but I’ve not seen any cat with a long nose.So It could be Wally, but I looks more like Lyn with a topping of Chic.Chic has reminded me of Dennis T. Menace too.
It is Lyn somehow, and he is angry at Wally. Maybe because he doesn’t want Wally to hurt Holly? Or maybe just because he is jealous? (He did say ‘stay away from my wife’)
No true animals are known to have survived the End, except for the security rats, and they were intelligent to begin with. True animals’ minds may not have been able to handle whatever’s causing the mutations. There are no animal bodies, so it seems they turned to dust like most Amesworth radiation victims.
1) Ok, lets go on the premise that Lyn got dusted, just as the dittos showed Wally. But Holly is still very much alive and radiating enough emotion to keep the ship going for quite awhile. Ship is willing to get Wally ditto-master go as long as it gets to keep Holly, and keep her in a state of distress.2) If you review Holly’s fragile psyche ( take a moment to find 6/3/16 entry in the archive) she is fixated on the loss of her mutated child and Lyn. The Ship’s solution to the Wally-problem is to weaponize Holly’s memory of Lyn.3) Racoon Jim went schizoid then got possessed by the mysterious “I”. Holly’s pretty ripe for possession.

If all the animals change back to humans would the animals born change back to humans too? Were they “mutated” in the womb?
