Methinks Peter learned that fast channel surfing FROM Roger.

Oh, I remember the old days when we had to walk through eight feet of shag carpet to adjust the TV.

The tuner in the DVR doesn’t operate that fast.

I remember the days when we didn’t have to – because we only got 1 channel (18; WHIZ-TV, Zanesville, OH)

I remember the first remote control TV I ever saw – the remote was connected to the TV with a wire! Couldn’t loose in at least.

Better to look up what tv show you want.

I could probably surf faster than them. I just need an old-fashioned remote to do it.

That doesn’t seem to work on some TV receivers these days. When I go to the next channel, the picture on the screen freezes. I can push the button several times without seeing any change in the picture.

My Aunt and Uncle had an early remote. There was a little steping motor in the TV that turned the tuner knob. It was the motor/tuner that made the clunk.

This is a straight rerun of a similar strip with Paige. Sometimes cartoonists forget they’ve used a joke before.

The first time I used cable tv (early 80’s as I recall) the cable box had an actual channel selector knob on it… so instead of placing it near the tv like most folks I got some extra coax and placed the box next to where I sat… instant remote control for a tv that didn’t have one.

The only downside was two runs of coax between the tv and where I sat and since I lived alone that wasn’t a problem, the cat didn’t care.

After I purchased a VCR with a remote and a built in tuner that would work with cable, I used that instead of a cable box (I never paid for the encrypted channels anyway). That scheme worked until digital tv forced me back to leasing a cable box. I have to admit the DVR is a lot more flexible than the VCR, the only problem is there is no way (or no easy way) to create a recording I can keep once the cable box goes away.

When remote controls came out there were not very many frequencies. Our neighbors really liked our new TV so they bought one like it…JUST like it. Every time they changed their channel it changed ours too! We had to have one of them set to a different frequency.

I still have one of those “Clunkers” ! It’s a Zenith (the remote, that is)

in these days of cable or digital TV this wouldn’t be possible because it takes a couple seconds for each channel to load.

Seriously, what is the point of this? I have never once understood these Peter strips
