    Jason’s elves were created by Tolkien. Elves have been tall and beautiful and wise ever since.

    Christmas elves are a nineteenth century American anomaly. Even Christmas movies have started making elves full sized again.

    Tolkien was reacting against the diminishing of elves that went back to at least Shakespeare. He abhorred the cute little sprites that had captured the imagination from Elizabethan through Victorian times, and even into his own.Jason will see it in that perspective when he learns enough of the history.
