My old blackberry had a keyboard that did not try to emulate a regular phone. The numbers were all crowded at the left side of the qwerty keys, over whatever letters they landed on. That was all right if you were just dialing by number- but it didn’t help at all when you were given one of those numbers that’s spelled as a word of phrase. Then you had to find a regular push button keypad to translate.
yup, my rotary wall phone in the garage can still actually dial out! sorta like the over-the-air digital converter box! some stations are weak, but they’re out there!
Rotary Dials no longer work in my city. You can tell whether they work in your city quite easily. All a rotary dial did was to break the connection a short time, once for a one, twice for a 2, ect. You could therefore dial using the switchhook, if you were good. I had boy scouts in a church where there was a phone with no dial. On a couple occasions I called home from it by dialing with the switchhook. So, take your phone off the hook, flash the hangup button really fast a few times. If it appears from the sound that you have dialed a digit, a rotary dial will still work in your city.

How about a rotary dial? Many landlines will still work that way.

I “dial” all the numbers too. No shortcut or quick dial keys. All the numbers that are important to me—-I know by memory.
