Climate Change with Earl and Edna Edna: Oh, my...How did you get so wet, Earl? Earl: Got caught in a downpour without an umbrella. Edna: That's odd...the forecast didn't mention rain... Earl: I know...that's why I didn't take an umbrella with me. Edna: Well, maybe you just imagined it rained. Earl: Wait...what? You can see I'm soaked! Edna: Yes, but it's not raining now. Just like the forecast said. Edna: Seriously? Why would you stick to that preconceived notion over what I've just shown you?! Edna: Because I know you so well, dear. Earl: Uh...so just what's that supposed to mean? Edna: The Hendersons' sprinkler is on and spraying all over the place. Earl: Oh...

Is this the Edna analysis of the Henderson effect?

Capitalism started it and greed will finish it and us unless we put the breaks on and take control of capitalism. Even so Capitalism won’t get us out. What we all need to do goes against the ethos of greed, the profits won’t be found in cleaning up and reverse the trends if it is still possible. Only blind people like yourself tout your absurdities ignoring the literal mountain of proof at every turn. The only hoax is the idea that humans aren’t changing the climate of Earth. A very big hoax you promote.

Wiley just uses the human condition in ’toons, to show where stupidity might lie, and deniers leap up to illustrate.

Capitalism only for profit it’s no capitalism : better read the Max Weber’s “The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism”

Well we had a change Friday evening and it had nothing to do with the weather!

Here’s the interesting thing. Read the strip again, with Earl as the one insisting humans cause climate change. Whether you agree with the position or not, it sure fits.

Just enjoy the strip. Don’t over analyze it or tweak it to fit your own political agenda whatever that is. We have enough of that on the social media.

Guys – Climate change has been happening since sediment was first deposited. We see clear evidence in the rock record, thousands of times. We have now been having a warming trend since the last ice age. Capitalism did not cause it, but may speed it up. But even if we completely ban capitalism, do you think that China, India, and other aggressively developing countries will not pollute? Like it or not, kiss the current coastlines goodbye and learn to love the new coastlines… .

Take the number from either the EPA or the UN council on Climate Change. Use numbers from science and what you get If you do the math, the contribution by humans is just 0.15% of the existing CO2. If there is climate change, humans are not responsible because of CO2.

Q: How many climate change deniers does it take to change a light bulb? A: " There’s nothing wrong with that light bulb."

There’s not any point in arguing. Each side has its beliefs and facts to suit it. We live in two different worlds, but in each the sea is rising. The people who accept that have to do what they can for all of us, while the other side digs in its heels and says “Lalalala”.

Scientists told us that acid rain was going to defoliate all the trees and thus deprive the world of oxygen. We were all going to suffocate. Don’t hear about that anymore. Then, there was already so much fluorocarbon rising into the ozone that it was too late to fix it. There’d be a huge hole in the ozone and we were all going to get skin cancer and die. Haven’t heard much about that lately either. Makes you wonder what they’ll be saying about global warming in ten years.

This may be the most balanced Non Sequitur strip I’ve ever read. I love the way it makes the wife seem like the irrational denier, and the husband seem like the well-informed one with the solid facts, right up until the end.
No matter what side of the fence you’re on in any debate, be well-informed! Get as close to the truth as you can, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

Climate change is a fact; it has been happening since before the dinosaurs. BUT it is possible that the speed of the change is unprecedented. Is this due to the natural solar cycle, or is it due to atmospheric changes that may or may not be caused by human activity? Even if it is caused by human activity, most of the problem lies with nations like China and India, and whatever we North Americans do will have little effect on the process.
We need to prepare, rather than prevent.
The greenhouse gas in the atmosphere with the largest effect is … water vapour.

There is no debate – just people who accept scientific facts on the one hand, and on the other people paid by the fossil fuel industry to deny scientific facts & morons who believe them.

You’re right to say there is no man made climate change up until the point where you say there is no human influence on climate change, at which point you’re back to wrong again.
Only problem is in most cases we don’t know to what precise degree humans have influence. One chart I’d like to see is a chart showing the estimated mass of humanity divided by total bio-mass in the world with time on the y axis. Over say at least 100,000 years down to 1 on a semi-log10 chart. Just because it probably shows our main impact in our net reproductive rate and resulting population accumulation. Maybe it’ll show we’re a self correcting problem.

Deniers, see if you can wrap your heads around four facts.1. The climate is changing, mostly getting warmer. Some places cooler. This compares the 1990 and 2015 growing zone maps. https://www.arborday.org/media/map_change.cfm2. Climate is not weather. It is the average of the weather in a given area, usually over a 30-year period.https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/climate/climate_weather.html 3. Global temperature and CO2 are rising hand-in hand. See fourth chart here. http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/global_warming/modern_day_climate_change.html4. The increase in CO2 in the last 150 years is due mainly to fossil fuel use and land clearing. This has been shown by analysis of different isotopes of carbon in atmospheric CO2.http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2004/12/how-do-we-know-that-recent-cosub2sub-increases-are-due-to-human-activities-updated/ What has been caused by man can be fixed by man, though it will require a huge effort.
