Grandma: I'd forgotten I had a dining room table in here. Madeline: Did you see the lovely hand print centerpiece Alice made in preschool? Alice: It's got a whole bag of cotton balls on it, and a whole roll of crepe paper and a whole jar of glitter! It's the first hand print turkey visible from the moon! Petey: Is it true that eating turkey can make you lose consciousness? Peter: Grandma's beet casserole! How I'd forgotten how very, very maroon it is.

Love, love, love extended family dinners with everyone’s little quirks that we only have to put up with one or two times a year, so they are still endearing and not just crazy.

The beet casserole keeps it’s maroonity (maroonness?) when it leaves you as well. Don’t panic, it’s just the beets.

If I didn’t talk to myself, no one would speak to me. At least that seems to be the nature of Otterloop family “conversation” at Grandma’s big dining room table.
(And I’m having beets tonight, maroon or not….)
