But you didn’t pay for the VCR monthly, buying it over and over again.

My new girlfriend had a huge collection of Beta tapes, many still new, still in the original package. we ask a friend an electronics guy if he knew where she could get a player, he said no over and over again. Finally she gave up and she threw them all away. one day he said " I wish you did not throw them away, I have a Beta Machine at home". Dumb techno guy…..they are all a like, eh?

I just had my home movies of my kids that were on Betamax, converted (by Costco!) to DVDs… Anyone with home movies on film or tapes should do this, as the films deteriorate over the years and you will lose your memories. Not to mention it’s impossible to have a Betamax machine these days. However, for laws of copyright, Costco will not convert anything you taped off TV, like movies or old TV shows. Just home movies. I’m so glad I preserved my memories!

the problem isn’t that they have historical value so much as they have sentimental value. How many parents recorded these tapes so that they could share them with grand children someday? And magnetic tapes degrade over time. We have a collection aging in storage. The have dust and warm fuzzy thoughts all over them.

problem is vhs is a magnetic tape and after a while they start to demagnetize and you lose the movie.

If VHS tapes are so worthless, why did I see an article just yesterday where tapes in their original cases were selling for as much as $17,000?

VHS tapes don’t last that long! And good luck finding something to play them on!

There are people making good money on eBay selling VHS and Beta tapes and machines. Every time you throw some in the trash, you potentially raise the prices on what’s left.

Give them to me, my VCR still works and I still record things not likely to be on a DVD for awhile if ever.
