Jon: I've watched this Christmas special every year since I was a little boy. It sure brings back memories. I want my ba-ba bear.
Garfield: I had a feeling we were headed there.
Christmas specials to me would be the following: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, A Christmas Story, Ernest Saves Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, White Christmas, It’s Wonderful Life, … okay, I’ll stop
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” was the classic for me.
My son loved “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” directed by Chuck (Looney Tunes) Jones, narrated by Boris Karloff, and with the song, “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” sung by the original voice of Tony the Tiger, Thurl Ravenscroft. (And there is your Trivia Gem for the day!)
Many have How The Grinch Stole Chistmas or A Charlie Brown Christmas as their holiday special, but for me, it’s A Flintstones Family Christmas. It’s the official end of the series, and it couldn’t have ended on a better note.
I watch all of those…and add Die Hard. It truly isn’t Christmas completely until Hans Gruber falls off Nakatomi Plaza. (and I curse 2016 for taking Alan Rickman away from us.)
I differentiate “special” from “movies”. My favorite specials are “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey”, “Little Drummer Boy”, and “Opus & Bill: A Wish for Wings that Work”. Movies are “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Story”, “The Nativity Story”, “The Gathering” (a 1977-TV movie), and “Miracle on 34th Street” (My husband & I watch “Die Hard”, “Lethal Weapon” and “Invasion USA”.) Add to these are special Christmas episodes from “7th Heaven”, “Sue Thomas F.B.Eye”, “Walker Texas Ranger” and “The Monkees”.
A Christmas Story, Its a Wonderful Life & Miracle on 34th Stare shown here on Dec 24th running back to back for at least12 hours or more. No one mentioned my favorite movie,Holiday Affair. I watch it at least once every year. The originalis from 1946. There is also a remake, but it is not as good.I highly recommend it. HOLIDAY AFFAIR.
Personally, I am tired of watching the Christmas shows on Hallmark TV. They keep repeating the same shows over and over when there is a lot more that they could show but don’t. Many of them are listed in the comments for this site.
frankly I go a bit less mainstream for my xmas fun. 2 classic movies in particular; Desk Set and The Thin Man. Both have nice holiday scenes, and neither is overly sappy.

Just hug Garfield instead, Jon … there was a time – back in Garfield classics that he would’ve let you!

The best Christmas specials are the BOB HOPE Christmas specials from our military bases around the world. Rest in peace, Mr. Hope, you deserve it.

There have been so-called Christmas films on TV for the last 3 months…… over and over again. The season isn’t special anymore.
